Insurance Resources
Use these insurance resources to prepare for a broker conversation, review your documents and understand common policy terms. The guides are available to read on this website. You can print a page or save it as a PDF using your browser if you would like a copy for your own business records.
Start with the service and disclosure information
- Financial services information — understand the brokerage role, licensing disclosures and where to obtain the Financial Services Guide that applies to your engagement.
- Terms of Engagement — read the service arrangements, payment terms and information about our ongoing appointment.
- Website Terms & Conditions — understand how to use this website and the limits of its general information.
- Cookies Policy — read about website cookies and how to manage browser settings.
Your policy schedule, current wording, endorsements and any applicable Product Disclosure Statement are specific to your insurance. Keep the documents provided for your policy and ask your broker if a version is missing or unclear. This resource page does not replace an insurer’s documents or the disclosures supplied during your engagement. If you need the current Financial Services Guide or a copy of another service document, contact BAU Risk.
A practical policy review checklist
- Confirm that the insured legal entity, trading names and business description match your current operations.
- List every premises, storage location, vehicle, item of plant and other material asset relevant to your cover.
- Review asset values and the basis on which property is insured, rather than copying an old figure without checking it.
- Check the policy period, limits, sublimits, excesses and endorsements, and note any questions for your broker.
- Identify changes in revenue, payroll, employee numbers, services, products, contracts or locations.
- Record known incidents, complaints and circumstances that may need to be disclosed or notified.
- Consider dependencies such as key suppliers, specialist equipment, utilities, technology and access to your premises.
- Check who in the business is responsible for retaining documents and communicating changes to your broker.
Share relevant changes before renewal or before the new activity starts. A renewal notice may reflect earlier information, so tell your broker when the business has changed. If a client contract asks for a particular insurance limit or policy feature, provide the contract clause and obtain appropriate legal advice about the contractual obligations. A certificate alone may not answer whether the policy meets the requirement.
Understand the language in your documents
The insurance glossary provides individual explanations you can return to while reading a policy. Useful starting points include policy wording, sum insured, exclusion, endorsement and certificate of insurance. Each definition is general: the defined terms and operative clauses in your own policy remain important.
For example, a schedule summarises selected details, while a wording and its endorsements explain how cover operates. A limit can differ between cover sections and an exclusion can remove a particular cause or circumstance. Read related documents together and ask your broker to explain how a clause relates to the work your business actually performs.
Explore cover and industry guides
Browse the industry directory for guides matched to business activities or use insurance services to start with a cover category. The small business, public liability, professional indemnity, business interruption and cyber guides explain different areas to discuss. A business may need to consider several categories together; a guide’s title is not confirmation that a particular exposure is insured.
Keep claims and payment information close by
Save the claims preparation guide with your emergency contacts and policy details. It sets out the information that can help identify an incident and organise the claim file. Our payment page explains how to use the methods shown on your invoice and check unexpected payment changes. If you are uncertain which document you need, request a callback and tell us what you are trying to complete.
Let’s talk it through.
Leave your contact details and a short description of what you need. Please keep sensitive personal information and payment details out of the enquiry.
Important information
This page contains general information and does not take into account your objectives, financial situation or needs. Insurance is subject to insurer acceptance and the policy’s terms, conditions, exclusions and limits. An enquiry does not arrange, renew or change cover. Read our financial services information and the relevant policy documents before deciding.
