01 / The meaning
What it means.
An employee’s workplace injury, a visitor’s injury allegation and an insured traveller’s treatment bill can involve different arrangements. Workers compensation schemes have their own rules for eligible treatment and approval. A liability claim may instead concern whether the business is legally responsible for another person’s loss. Personal accident benefits should not be assumed to reimburse every medical bill.
Identify the provider, treatment, connection to the incident and any approval needed before non-urgent expense is incurred. Rebates, statutory schemes and other payments may affect the amount being claimed. Keep receipts and clinical information securely, providing sensitive material only through an appropriate process. The presence of an expense on an invoice does not establish that it is an insured benefit.
02 / Put it in context
A practical example.
Hypothetical example: An employee requires physiotherapy after an injury at work. The employer and worker check the applicable workers compensation process and any treatment approval requirements. The proposed sessions and costs are assessed under that scheme, rather than the business’s public liability policy.
This example illustrates the term. It does not predict a claim outcome.
